- GE’s Grid Solutions to help connect this landmark project to the national grid
Morocco, February 10, 2021 – GE was awarded a contract to build two substations in the south of Morocco that will evacuate power from the Boujdour wind farm and other renewable energy projects to neighboring communities, as well as connect it to the national grid of Morocco. The project is owned and developed by ONEE (Moroccan public authority) and other private partners, and consists of a 300 MW wind farm. It is expected to in time provide clean power to some 200,000 households throughout the country.
The Boujdour site is part of a far-ranging integrated wind power project, totaling some 850 MW on different sites, which is in turn part of Morocco’s ambitious renewable energy program, aiming to install about 10 GW of renewable additional capacity by 2030. This is more than 52% of the Moroccan installed capacity.
Two substations – one with 400 kV capacity, and another of 225 kV – will be built using GE technology. To fully support the project, GE is participating in the planning, design, and execution of the planned facilities utilizing grid code studies, detailed design, compensation solutions, gas- and air-insulated switchgear, power transformers and reactors, and full automation solutions.
