GE Delivering Improved Reliability, Safety and Control Room Efficiency at Norgesnett AS

Norgesnett AS has selected GE Energy Connections (NYSE: GE) to deliver its Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) to enhance the utility's distribution grid operations. The system is scheduled to be delivered in May 2018.

The 2016 merger of the companies Askøy Nett AS, Follo Nett AS and Fredrikstad Nett AS created Norway's Norgesnett ASi. Headquartered in and majority-owned by the city of Fredrikstadii, the Norgesnett distribution utility operates across seven municipalities in south-eastern Norway, serving 92,000 end-customers.

The project includes the replacement of the utility's existing control room system with GE's ADMS solution. In the first phase of the project, the system will provide SCADA, Network View, GIS interface, Order Management, Outage Management, Geospatial Analytics and DMS advanced applications. Those building blocks will then underpin Norgesnett Smart Grid strategy for managing energy transition with higher penetration of renewables. GE Energy Connections' Grid Solutions business will deliver the ADMS from their Center of Excellence in Livingston, UK.

"Maintaining the grid in the harsh Norwegian climate is a challenge" said Eilert Henriksen, CEO Norgesnett AS. "We are confident that the implementation of GE's platform will enable Norgesnett AS to reduce faults, enhance collaboration between the control room and our field crews, and also help deliver improved customer satisfaction."

"With an advanced user experience providing seamless grid operation processes and features, GE's ADMS will enable Norgesnett AS to move forward as a connected utility, from crew to operator to consumer. This win further extends our leadership in serving electric Transmission and Distribution utilities across the Nordic region" said Christian Olivier, Grid Software Solutions Region Leader for Europe, Africa and Central Asia at GE Energy Connections, "building on our success at Vattenfall in Sweden and Veitur in Iceland."

GE's modular Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) deliver reliability, productivity and efficiency all via one platform, one network model and a simplified operational workflow, using real-time network information that spans HV, MV and LV. GE's ADMS encompasses advanced monitoring and control of the distribution network, fault and outage management and network performance optimization on a single system. The training system allows operators to be trained in both routine and emergency procedures in an environment that accurately represents the behaviour and response of the real system.
