GeoSpatial Grid Contest

If you are a graduate or undergraduate student in the United States with ideas on geospatial applications for the electrical grid, we invite you to submit a research paper for our Geospatial Grid Contest. The Geospatial Grid Contest is a competition to encourage and reward research in the application of geospatial sciences and how geospatial technologies can be applied to improve the structure and performance of the electrical grid.

The author(s) of the winning research paper will receive $5,000 USD and will get the opportunity to present his/her work at a major geospatial conference.



Topics for submission include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of large spatial databases
  • Architectures for real-time spatial data
  • Use of volunteered geographic information for grid management
  • Geo-collaboration and use of the cloud
  • Innovative user interfaces
  • Spatial foundations of grid analytics
  • Integration of sensors into network models

    Key Dates

    The research paper must be submitted by April 23, 2013. Completed submissions will be evaluated by a panel of GE and industry experts. The winner will be announced on May 16, 2013.
