Monitoring and control

The optimised solution to reduce switching overvoltages.

POINT-ON-THE-WAVE CONTROLLERS provide inherent benefits to limit the overvoltages caused by switching operations below unprecedented values

The Alstom Grid RPH3 can replace the cumbersome pre-insertion resistors of the circuit-breakers for the current applications of transmission lines energisation or reclosing, shunt capacitor on shunt reactor switching, power transformer energisation.
In addition, RPH3 includes innovative specific features to further reduce the switching stresses of transmission circuits connected to shunt compensation devices.

The RPH3 is strongly recommended for:

  • Switching on HV on EHV transmission lines with short compensation ( three-phase or single-phase auto-reclosure), discriminating the cases of application of shunt compensation
  • Energisation of large power transformers (inrush current, remanent flux)
  • Switching of shunt reaction and capacitor banks RPH3 benefits implementation helps revisiting the switching protection levels of the transmission circuits and of the equipment of the S/S

Main features and benefits

  • Sophisticated : advanced, innovative, to trigger circuit breaker contacts motion under the most favorable condition of voltage or current zero-corssing
  • Automatic discrimination of circuit configuration thanks to the built-in expert system
  • Speed and accuracy thanks to the built-in expert system
  • Reduced dimensions and costs: compact design
  • Reliability : no moving parts, permanent monitoring
  • Smart grid and connectivity: full digital interface between RPH3 and substations circuit breaker
  • Traceability : record of past operations (current and voltage values)
  • User-friendly interface : main data displayed on screen + remote access

Main features and benefits

  • Optimisation of maintenance schedule
  • Limitation of outages
  • Accurate SF6 control : environement respect
  • First diagnosis remotely by GIS expert
